"I'll be home for Christmas" – when Bing Crosby sing his opening line, I immediately feel brought back to the days of my youth. It's not even that I could remember listening to that specific tune as a child, but still the pictures that come to my mind are vivid. Yet they appear to me like scenes from some old movie. It seems so long ago... You see, as you get older you just don't have that childhood fascination for Christmas anymore. In fact I think you can hardly feel such a strong fascination at all as an adult. Seen through the eyes of a child everything seems magical and surreal. As an adult there is little magic left between a computer screen and your tax return. But listening to Bing Crosby brings back a tiny portion of that magic and that's a good thing. At the same time the song has this certain melancholy, which evokes this sense of having lost something beautiful long ago. I guess you call that nostalgia.

I think it is really sad that you seem to have lost the ability to let Christmas take over. Maybe you only need a little bit of practice to be able to return to your childhood feelings even as an adult. Jule and I always throw our annual extremely festive and joyful Christmas party with our friends and clearly you have to take part in it this year to get some coaching of how to get into a Christmassy mood again.
AntwortenLöschenI hope you like the picture I added, if not, you can just change it. I feel the same about this. I can never return to the realm of magic and fairytales that was my childhood. I'm not pretending that the broomstick is a horse's back that is taking me through the prairie. I don't believe that some old fella dressed in red is dumping his presents under the shimmering tree. I am 22 and I mourn the days when I knew nothing and believed in everything.
AntwortenLöschenYou both have a point, I guess. ;-) Looking foward to your christmas-coaching, hehe.
AntwortenLöschenThe picture is perfect by the way.
Is any of these pictures by chance from your christmas parties: http://www.smosh.com/smosh-pit/photos/21-worst-christmas-photos-ever-0 ?
