My sister and I used to dress ourselves in grandma’s old aprons and cut out animal-shaped pieces of gingerbread. We always heard that song especially on Christmas Eve. I don’t mind that it is a sad song, for me it conveys the quiet and festive spirit of Christmas when it is already dark outside and the Christmas tree and lots of candles are burning. The family sits together in a tranquil and merry mood with presents to give to each other. This song, along with “White Christmas” and several other American Christmas songs, makes me want to stand in front of the huge tree at the Rockefeller Center. In my family I made it my duty to decorate the Christmas tree, and I always try to make it as close to its big rolemodel in Manhattan as I can while listening to Bing Crosby's Christmas Collection. Now that I don’t live at home anymore, I still try to make the pre-Christmas time as festive as I can even without a life long extended collection of decorations. One of the most important means to get into a Christmassy mood is listening to Bing Crosby and baking gingerbread now with my roommate.

I love the feeling I get when I read this excerpt. For me, baking gingerbread with by beloved roommate is as "cristmasy" as it gets. I am intensely looking forward to our Christmas party this year, where we dress up in thick woollen socks and cocktail dresses, have raclette and exchange wonderfully awful presents. Of course, Bing and Dean and Frank are with us that night and entertain us with their smooth voices, quite modernly, out of the iPod docking station.

AntwortenLöschenThanks for uploading a photo. Although that are not our home-baked cookies, they look quite nice.
AntwortenLöschenI didn't want to have to set the blog to adult content for our cookies ;)
